That doesn't mean you can't run the non-traditional models in the factions, but you are likely going to see better results with the above mentioned.Eh.it's not as good as the armored battlegroup detachment from imperial armor 1. Cygnar have a few better options to run some warjacks, and tend to often bring a Stormwall, but have quite weak melee infantry, which make them look to Mercenaries to fill their ranks. Look at Bane Thralls, Bane Knights, Satyxis Raiders and Satyxis Blood Witches. One of the important things to note before you invest is that Cryx is generally not a warjack faction, they instead run their incredibly powerful infantry for most part.

In the match up, I think Cryx definitely have the edge, but it isn't an auto win. The Lancer is the best piece from the Cygnar box in my opinion, because it is surprisingly survivable for a light warjack, has reach and is an arc node in a faction with a lot of powerful casters. He is very solid in battlebox games, but he isn't a very completive caster at higher point levels, and he isn't nearly as useful against Hordes. The caster, pStryker that is in the Cygnar box is very cookie cutter, which in Warmachine often is bit of a disadvantage, because you tend to want to be good at something, pStryker is okay at almost everything. It is however quite versatile and will do just fine in a battlebox game. I think I would rank the Ironclad as the second worst piece in the Cygnar box, but not because it is a bad model, just that if you want to run warjacks in Cygnar, you will tend to go for a more expensive piece, simply to get more out of your resources. It does however give Cygnar the option to sit back and shoot better than most boxes, it's problem is that going forward, the value of this piece diminishes greatly. In the Cygnar box, the worse model is the Charger, it is too much of a focus hog for it's special niche ability to be useful most of the time. One of the complaints that the Cryx box will at times get is that pDenny is too powerful for new players, and they don't properly learn the game as a result, but that is as with those things, always debatable.

The Deathrippers and the Slayer are quite equal, will rarely see play at high level games but work quite excellently in the box. The second most completive model in the Cryx box is ironically probably the weakest in the battlebox vs battlebox scenario, the Defiler. Don't let that discourage you, because the game is for a miniature game incredibly well made and quite balanced (not all factions have as many options as each other, but all can compete), what battlebox games are more about is to get a feel for the faction.Īs for the power levels of the models in the two boxes you mention, pDenny is easily the most competitive model of the bunch, but her value goes down a notch because she have to fuel too many warjacks in this setting.

As I mentioned, the game is balanced at around 50 points, which make it quite impossible to expect you to have equal chances against every other box, it is simply more rock, paper, scissor because you can't cover all your bases. The most important part about the game at battlebox level is to simply have fun, while trying to learn the rules. I think if you want to look at one of the most balanced games you will get form starter sets, you should look at the Hordes two-player box, with very decent models, and incredible value for your money. What you should look at in the battleboxes is more of how they play rather than win percentages, because the game is balanced at about 50 points, which is quite far from a battlebox size game.
